NeuroTracker, the “coach” the brains of US special forces
Baku, May 12 (AZERTAC). Members of the special forces of any army in the world are elite soldiers who are undergoing hard training to test their physical and mental endurance. Perhaps in part by the very picture film and TV has offered this type of military units, we tend to think that the workouts are more physical than psychological but mental stamina, self-control and, above all, rapid reaction to the environment are factors to promote. To promote precisely the learning of elite soldiers, the Department of Defense United States is considering purchasing a system called NeuroTracker seeking to train soldiers and get them to react much faster in combat situations.
The idea of DoD is to make the special forces soldiers, such as Delta Force, Green Berets or SEALs, develop perceptual skills for analyzing the environment and act quickly, such as professional athletes do in competition. Taking the sport, the Army has purchased a training system that originally was to target elite athletes. The NeuroTracker is a virtual reality system developed by CogniSens, a spin-off from the University of Montreal founded by the doctor and professor of neurophysiology Jocelyn Faubert . This intent to purchase, however oddly enough, is published in a kind of recruitment profile in which the Federal Government publishes its procurement processes of public.
And what is NeuroTracker? This trainer subjected users to confusing situations in which they must react quickly, so thanks to extensive use, the user could “train your brain” to respond faster. Particular, it raises 8 games in the 8-ball displayed on a projecting moving three-dimensional environment.
At first contact, the user will have to follow the path of 4 balls and ignore the other 4 rebounds for the system to perform an evaluation of the user`s ability to predict trajectories and rebounds and then are introduced changes in her game (in the paths to follow and distractions) so the user will be more difficult to follow their goals. With these exercises, an athlete is able to improve the processing time information, which also wants to extend to members of US special forces. Besides serving as a coach, the Special Operations Command wants to use as screen NeuroTracker during the selection of new members and eliminate applicants who do not fall under a minimum threshold of responsiveness or troubleshooting.
And how can react faster? According to the developer of the system, training is able to “reconfigure” the connections of the brain and cause it to increase its throughput capacity by solving increasingly complex problems.
