Road collision kills 15, injures 3 in south Brazil
Baku, June 13 (AZERTAC). A head-on collision early Tuesday between a cargo truck and a van carrying tourists in southern Brazil left at least 15 dead and three injured, federal police sources said.
The tourists were on a shopping excursion to Ciudad del Este, near the Brazilian border with Paraguay, shortly after dawn when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and veered into oncoming traffic, hitting their van head on, the Federal Highway Police reported.
The driver of the truck carrying lumber was killed instantly, as were 14 of the van`s passengers. Another three people were critically injured and taken to hospital in Guarapauva city, near the site of the crash in Brazil`s border state of Parana, the police said.
The border city of Ciudad del Este is a popular shopping destination for Brazilians.
Police did not say why the accident occurred, but reported finding packets of marijuana among the lumber scattered on the road from the impact.
