Some in Armenia still cling to a revanchist mindset – COMMENTARY

“The latest visit by representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan to the liberated territories of Garabagh and East Zangezur once again demonstrated to the international community the acceptance of the new realities that have emerged in the region. However, the aggressive reactions from some representatives of Armenian society and the media to the visit show that a revanchist mindset continues to exist in certain circles in Armenia,” MP Khanlar Fatiyev told AZERTAC.
He said the aggressive reaction from Armenian society reflects a longstanding pattern of historical distortion and a racist mindset. He noted that Armenia seeks to portray ancient Albanian monuments such as Ganjasar and Khudavang as its own heritage while denying Azerbaijan’s historical and cultural heritage. He described the denial of Azerbaijani heritage and settlements in present-day Armenia as rooted in a xenophobic mindset.
“Moreover, Armenia’s denial of the heritage of Caucasian Albania, which left a lasting mark on Azerbaijan’s historical geography, is an example of ideological racism. Its historical presence and rich architectural heritage have been documented by international researchers. The failure of certain circles in Armenian society to acknowledge these historical facts and their disregard for scientific evidence reveal their attempts to distort history,” the MP emphasized.
Khanlar Fatiyev stressed that the international community’s recognition of the new realities established by Azerbaijan after restoring its territorial integrity constitutes a significant political and diplomatic achievement for Baku globally.
According to him, these new realities have created a strong foundation for peace and cooperation in the region and clearly demonstrate that no force can alter them. He added that the sooner Armenia abandons its revanchist mindset and comes to terms with the new realities, the more effectively it can contribute to lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
