Baku, March 4 (AZERTAC). A powerful 6.4-magnitude earthquake rocked southern Taiwan on March 4, terrifying residents, disrupting communications and triggering at least one large fire. An earthquake stopped transport, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage, officials said. Rail service in southern and central Taiwan was suspended, as was the state-of-the-art subway system in Kaohsiung city, Taiwan`s second largest city with a population of 1.5 million. Kaohsiung is about 250 miles (400 kilometers) south of Taipei.

The epicenter was in 43 kilometers far from Pindun. The quake was felt to a lesser extent in Tainan, Tsyai, Taydun, Yunlin. It was felt to a similar degree in Hsinchu and Taipei.
