Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan commemorates Khojaly victims
Baku, February 22 (AZERTAC). An event marking the 21st anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy has been held at the Turkish Embassy in Baku.
The event brought together Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Refugee and IDP Affairs Ali Hasanov, Head of socio-political affairs department at the Azerbaijani President`s Administration, Ali Hasanov as well as MPs, employees of the Turkish Embassy, representatives of the Turkish community and journalists.
Addressing the event, Turkish ambassador Ismail Alper Coskun highlighted history and consequences of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He said peaceful settlement of the dispute was important for Turkey as it was for Azerbaijan.
The ambassador described Khojaly massacre as one of the most terrible and tragic genocide acts in the 20th century.
Deputy Prime Minister Hasanov spoke of what had been done to promote awareness of the Khojaly massacre on the international scale.
He stressed the importance of “Justice for Khojaly” International Awareness Campaign initiated by Vice-Chairperson of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva.
Hasanov noted as a result of this international promotion campaign
several foreign parliaments recognized the atrocities committed by the Armenian Armed forces in Khojaly as genocide.
Corresponding member of ANAS, Professor Nizami Jafarov recalled events commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly massacre in Turkey, and praised support of the Turkish people.
Other speakers noted the importance of Turkey`s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for Azerbaijan.
The event featured the demonstration of a documentary entitled “Killed hopes” made by TRT TV channel.
