UN eyes to further expand its activities in Azerbaijan
Baku, October 8, AZERTAC
“As the United Nations, we consider the textbook titled “Sustainable Development Policy” highly useful. The book is not simply a publication, but also an important platform for young people to learn about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the progress achieved in this area, and the challenges that remain to be addressed,” UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Dmytro Shlapachenko told journalists.
He said the textbook reflects Azerbaijan’s commitment to the SDGs and the country’s efforts to advance sustainable development under a dedicated national strategy.
Dmytro Shlapachenko noted that Azerbaijan is one of the few countries to have submitted four Voluntary National Reviews on the implementation of the SDGs. He said the UN plans to further strengthen cooperation with the Azerbaijani government, including through strategic dialogue, events and cultural initiatives, and expand its activities in the country.
“So far, what I see is there is willingness of the government of Azerbaijan to work very closely with the United Nations. When I had the honour to present my credentials to the President of Azerbaijan, we discussed also areas where the UN could work more with the government. We are planning to conduct a strategic dialogue with the Azerbaijani government in Garabagh. For me, this is very strategic, and this is very important,” he added.
