Baku Engineering University hosts scientific seminar dedicated to Nobel Prize in Physics
Baku, October 29, AZERTAC
A scientific seminar dedicated to the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics was held at Baku Engineering University (BEU).
Addressing the event, BEU Rector Yagub Piriyev emphasized the important role of scientific research in the development of fundamental science, in understanding the complex processes taking place in the universe, and in obtaining new scientific knowledge.
He also noted the significance of modern physics in studying the structure of the universe, the properties of elementary particles, and their interactions.
Yagub Piriyev expressed confidence that the presentation by Vali Huseynov, university professor, Corresponding Member of ANAS, and Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, would be interesting and useful, and that the topic would contribute to broadening the knowledge of faculty and students about current research directions in modern physics.
The Rector emphasized that such scientific seminars contribute to the development of fundamental science, the dissemination of scientific knowledge, and the growth of students' interest in research.
Professor Vali Huseynov then delivered a presentation titled "The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics: The IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the Discovery of High-Energy Neutrinos of Astrophysical Origin." He provided information on Nobel laureate Francis Halzen's scientific activity, the structure of the IceCube neutrino observatory, and the advantages of its location in Antarctica.
The presentation explained the observatory's operating principle, the detection of neutrinos through digital optical modules placed in the deep layers of the ice, and the investigation of the astrophysical origin and possible sources of high-energy neutrinos.
The seminar also focused on Francis Halzen's role in the creation of the IceCube project, the detector's capabilities, the interaction of neutrinos with matter, and current scientific problems in this field. Professor Vali Huseynov also provided information about his own research in this area and the scientific articles he has prepared.
The event concluded with extensive discussions on the topic and questions from participants.
