Gizlar Spring is one of the ancient and memorable sites of Nakhchivan city. The spring, which is the subject of various legends and songs, reflects the city’s rich folklore and cultural heritage.
For centuries, the spring has been known as a gathering place for the city’s residents, particularly girls. Local folklore offers several legends about the origin of its name. According to one legend, in ancient times, the city’s virtuous girls would gather at the spring before sunrise, drink its icy water, and pray for their wishes to come true, as well as for a happy future and good fortune.
Over the years, Gizlar Spring evolved from simply being a source of water into a cherished meeting place where people gathered, shared conversations and exchanged fond memories. The legends associated with its name have been passed down from generation to generation and continue to live on today. The spring remains a popular attraction for both locals and visitors to the city.
Islam Safarli, the celebrated poet and lyricist who immortalized every corner of Nakhchivan in his poetry, also dedicated a poem of the same name to Gizlar Spring.
