Worth the journey: The magnificent Gochyatag Waterfall VIDEO

The latest feature in AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” column turns the spotlight on Gochyatag Waterfall.
This time, our journey takes us to Gochyatag Waterfall, hidden in the mountains of Gakh. One of Azerbaijan’s most abundant waterfalls, Gochyatag is nestled in the heart of pristine nature.
The waterfall is located 9 kilometers east of Ilisu village, on the Hamamchay River, and is estimated to be 35–50 meters high. It takes its name from nearby Gochyatag Mountain.
Reaching the waterfall is no easy task. From Ilisu village, only about 5 kilometers of the route can be covered by car. Beyond that, the journey takes us through a mountain river, over large rocks and across challenging terrain. We travel as far as possible by UAZ, crossing the river and navigating the rocky terrain before continuing on foot.
Along the way, we encounter small mountain waterfalls, ice-cold springs and thermal waters flowing into the river. As we pass through Hamam Gorge and climb deeper into the mountains, the scenery becomes increasingly spectacular, with towering cliffs, dense forests and a roaring mountain river below.
After a long and challenging hike, we hear the powerful sound of rushing water in the distance—the unmistakable sound of Gochyatag Waterfall.
The water thunders down from the heights, crashing against the rocks and spraying into the air, while the coolness around the waterfall provides welcome relief from the summer heat.
The journey to Gochyatag is challenging, but the spectacular scenery at the end makes it all worthwhile. With its peaceful surroundings, majestic mountains and magnificent waterfall, Gochyatag is an unforgettable destination.
