Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Science and Education and OpenAI expand cooperation on AI in education

The Ministry of Science and Education of Azerbaijan and OpenAI have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding to expand the responsible use of artificial intelligence across Azerbaijan’s education system, the Ministry told AZERTAC.
The Memorandum was signed in New York by Emin Amrullayev, Minister of Science and Education, and Leah Belsky, Vice President of Education at OpenAI.
The primary objective of the renewed partnership is to enhance teaching and learning opportunities for teachers and students through the use of AI technologies, improve the efficiency and accessibility of the educational process, and formulate approaches for the safe and responsible use of AI in educational institutions.
The cooperation will focus on developing AI-powered educational tools, providing training for teachers and educational staff on the effective use of AI technologies, and establishing standard frameworks and methodological approaches for safe and responsible AI use in schools.
A key pillar of the collaboration involves enhancing the Ministry’s learning management system for mathematics, natural sciences, and reading with OpenAI models. The system is expected to provide teachers with AI-powered support for lesson planning, the development of teaching materials, and student assessment. These tools are designed to streamline teachers’ preparation and reduce their administrative workload, enabling them to devote more time directly to students.
Additionally, OpenAI will support various training programs for teachers, students, and educational staff. A “train-the-trainer” program will help build local expertise and strengthen the capacity of trainers, allowing educational institutions in Azerbaijan to build long-term expertise in the application of AI. The parties will also work together to develop guidance, recommendations, and methodologies to promote the safe, ethical, and responsible use of artificial intelligence in education.
This marks the second Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Science and Education and OpenAI. Under their initial cooperation, an adaptive learning platform was developed.
