Baku, August 22, AZERTAC
The top telecom companies in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, AzerTelecom and Kazakh Telecom, are working together to develop the Trans-Caspian Fiber Optic Cable Line, one of the main elements of the Digital Silk Way mega project.
AzerTelecom and Kazakhtelecom have established a joint venture to build and operate the Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Cable Line between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan under the Caspian Sea.
The firm registration document was signed by Akimzhan Akhylbekov, Managing Director for state authorities of Kazakhtelecom, and Sergey Nazarenko, Chief Operating Officer of AzerTelecom. The parties expressed their support to the newly formed joint venture to construct the Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Cable Line.
"Another significant step that the parties have undertaken on the path to constructing the Trans-Caspian cable system is the formation of the joint venture. This action demonstrates that all sides are committed to the important global initiative. The joint venture will contribute to the creation of the most important element of the Digital Silk Way project, the Trans-Caspian Fiber-Optic Cable Line that will ensure the transfer of terabit data volumes between Asia and Europe. The Digital Silk Way route will play a significant role in improving the business climate, promoting economic development, and elevating countries’ positions in the global arena. It will open up new opportunities for regional cooperation", said Sergey Nazarenko.
The subsea cable will have data transmission capacity of up to 400 terabits per second.
"We are committed to collaboration to ensure our project becomes the most prominent in the region. Our goals also include forging fresh alliances that will aid us in fostering the growth of digital services and products, spanning from Asia to Europe," said Akimzhan Akhylbekov.
Digital Silk Way project was recognized as one of the top five strategic infrastructure projects in Asia during the Global Strategic Infrastructure Leadership Forum hosted in the United States.
