Baku Climate Action Week announced

Baku Climate Action Week announced

Baku, May 12, AZERTAC

Following the successful conclusion of COP29, where the global climate community gathered over two intense weeks to land historic milestones on climate finance and carbon markets, Azerbaijan is once again preparing to host an international climate gathering.

Today in Baku, COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev and COP29 High-Level Champion Nigar Arpadarai jointly announced that the country would once again host Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW) from Monday 29 September to Friday 3 October 2025. This will be the second time Azerbaijan has hosted BCAW, with the inaugural event held last year.

COP29 President, Mukhtar Babayev, said: “Azerbaijan was honoured to host COP29 and we are proud of the many outcomes achieved. But there is no time to rest on one’s laurels as temperatures continue to rise and climate impacts threaten every part of the world with greater ferocity. We must not lose focus. Investment in climate action must not waver, and we must seize the opportunities that it creates. As the COP29 Presidency, we will continue to promote this message globally and, in our region, as we work with the incoming COP30 Presidency of Brazil to deliver their objectives.

Azerbaijan will continue to be a standard bearer for climate action in our region and will demonstrate the opportunities created by embracing the green transition. This year, Baku Climate Action Week will serve once more as a landmark event for business leaders, investors, policymakers, scientists, academics, youth and civil society to come together, share climate solutions and drive change through collaboration.”

Reflecting on the value of Baku Climate Action Week, COP29 High-Level Champion, Nigar Arpadarai, said: “We know that a whole-of-society movement is needed to create the shifts in policy, investment and behaviour that are required for a just and effective climate transition. Last year, Baku Climate Action Week helped to galvanise climate action across every part of society in Azerbaijan, and across our region. We now need to carry this momentum forward to create lasting change.

Baku Climate Action Week also helped to cement relationships with leading cities such as London, which pioneered city-wide climate action through London Climate Action Week. BCAW will also be partnering with Rio de Janeiro to deliver the first ever Rio Climate Action Week this year.

These are exciting new models for delivery of climate action at scale and we look forward to building on the legacy of COP29 and the new networks and partnerships we have created.”

Baku Climate Action Week will take place from 29 September to 3 October 2025. The week will feature a major international conference in Baku, along with workshops, roundtables, and cultural events.

The key themes for this year’s BCAW will include: Energy Transition; Sustainable Agriculture and Water Resource Management; Cities/ Built Environment; Science, technology & innovation; Sustainable Economic Growth; SMEs and Green Skills; Youth & NextGen Start-Ups; Climate Adaptation & Resilience.

Baku Climate Action Week is being held in partnership with London and Rio Climate Action Weeks, and will once again be curated by Malini Mehra, and supported by a team of domestic and international experts and institutional partners.

Further details, including a programme outline for the week, will be available in the coming weeks on www.bakuclimateactionweek.org .
