Baku-hosted roundtable highlights role of environmental awareness in shaping sustainable lifestyles

On May 15, a roundtable on the role of environmental awareness in shaping sustainable lifestyles and public participation in cities was held ahead of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13) at the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
The event was attended by Rauf Hajiyev, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources; Sadig Gurbanov, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee for Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology; Hijran Huseynova, Chairperson of the Milli Majlis Committee on Family, Women and Children Affairs, as well as MPs, representatives of non-governmental organizations and experts.
The event participants highlighted the importance of forming ecological thinking in cities, promoting sustainable lifestyles and increasing public participation in terms of environmental protection, as well as effective approaches in the field of environmental education and awareness and the role of youth and local communities in the process.
They also exchanged views on issues such as expanding environmental awareness, increasing youth engagement in environmental initiatives, promoting inclusive participation and adapting to the impacts of climate change.
Representatives of the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Institute of Geography of the Ministry of Science and Education, “Tamiz Shahar” Open Joint-Stock Company, "EcoSphere" Social-Ecological Center and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) delivered presentations at the event.
