Baku hosts international children’s conference on waste management
Baku, November 16 (AZERTAC). The children’s conference “Reduce. Reuse. Recycle” takes place in Baku on the Day of Household Waste Sorting.
The event is held on the territory of Gala settlement as part of Tamiz Qala (Clean Gala) project, an initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The conference, which is part of the "Green Week" announced by company IDEA and the United Nations Environment Programme, involves pupils of Gala settlement, international schools and colleges of Baku as well as schoolchildren from Russia, Turkey, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Ukraine.
The main purpose of the conference is active involvement of pupils in environmental protection, study of methods for the proper sorting of household waste, as well as discussions on the themes of separation of household waste and saving natural resources, increase in the awareness of children and the creation of conditions for the exchange of information and ideas for school pupils from different countries.
Non-traditional methods of education are also used during the conference as all sessions and panel discussions are fully organized and managed by the children themselves. Tamiz Shahar specialists and independent experts conduct various seminars. It will also feature an excursion of the pupils to Balakhani plant on sorting municipal solid waste (MSW), operating currently in test regime.
The conference is held with support of Socio-Ecological Center “EkoSfera”.
