Bonn climate meeting sessions to discuss implementation of Baku Finance Goal
Baku, June 16, AZERTAC
The SB 62 session, held this year in Bonn, Germany, serves as a vital platform for discussing critical issues related to combating climate change. Cecilia Kinuthia Njenga, Director of Intergovernmental Support at the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Bonn, emphasized the session’s significance in continuing negotiations following the agreements reached in Baku. She noted that the governments of Azerbaijan and Brazil, the incoming COP30 presidency, are jointly preparing to host the next COP at a high level.
In an interview with AZERTAC, Njenga stated, “One of the most important aspects of SB 62 is bringing together parties from various countries. Here, we will discuss not only mitigation but also adaptation and, crucially, the means of implementation - such as technology, finance, and capacity-building for developing countries.”
Highlighting two key sessions scheduled in Bonn this week, Njenga explained that countries will deliberate on how to implement the finance goal agreed upon in Baku: “This is a critical step to review the essence of the agreements and determine how financing will be applied for countries in need. Negotiations on climate change mitigation and adaptation must progress.”
