Chairman of Azerbaijan State Committee on Religious Structures meets Vatican delegation
Baku, June 12 (AZERTAC). Chairman of Azerbaijan State Committee on Religious Structures Elshad Isgandarov met on Monday with Vatican delegation led by Cardinal Fernando Filoni, who are on a visit on occasion of the 10th jubilee of Pope John Paul II`s visit to Azerbaijan.
Elshad Isgandarov said that Azerbaijan historically was a country where people of different religious and nations live friendly.
Informing the delegation on the state policy on religious, chairman of the State Committee on Religious Structures touched upon regaining of Azerbaijan`s independence, Pope John Paul II`s visit to Azerbaijan and reception by national leader Heydar Aliyev.
Mr. Isgandarov also underlined the new building in the place of wrecked Catholic Church as a result of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev`s attention and care.
“The organization of an exhibition on Azerbaijan in Vatican with initiation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation led by First Lady Mehriban Aliyev and restoration of books in Vatican Museum are obvious examples of strengthening of cooperation in religious and cultural spheres between the two countries,” he added.
The Vatican delegation hailed atmosphere of tolerance in Azerbaijan highly.
