“For Our Planet” photo competition winners announced

On March 14, the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan hosted a special event marking the conclusion of the EU campaign “For Our Planet” and announcing the winners of the photo competition.
Launched in November 2024 as part of the campaign, the competition invited emerging photographers to submit smartphone-captured images under four main themes: Air, Water, Earth, and Energy.
In his opening speech, EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko stated: “Today, I officially close the ‘For Our Planet’ campaign, which we launched last year to promote best practices in environmental management and climate action before, during, and after COP29.”
The competition received over 120 submissions, with 12 winning photos selected—three for each category. An additional 22 photos, including one special prize entry, were chosen by the jury for an exhibition launched at Ganjlik Mall, Baku. Throughout the campaign, the EU Delegation emphasized that every individual can play a role in protecting the planet. The exhibition aims to inspire people to see natural resources differently and contribute to environmental protection. The campaign has reached over 2 million people through social media and outdoor initiatives.
Winners of the competition will receive a free photography course, including a full-day workshop with world-renowned photographer Reza Deghati. At the event, Peter Michalko also thanked ADA University students and Young European Ambassadors for their contributions.
The winners of each category are as follows: AIR: Kanan Arifli, Aydan Rzayeva, Aysun Ahmadova; WATER: Gunel Sultanova, Tural Abdulla, Turkan Karimova; EARTH: Khadija Miraliyeva, Turkan Karimova, Maryam Nazarli; ENERGY: Sitara Aghayeva, Kanan Arifli, Nigar Samadli.
The exhibition will remain open to the public at Ganjlik Mall for the next two weeks.
