IDEA campaign to hold “Earth Hour” event in four cities of Azerbaijan
Baku, March 31 (AZERTAC). The International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) will hold the “Earth Hour” event.
One of the main directions of the IDEA Campaign founded by the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva is the problem of climate change. The IDEA always supports the local and foreign actions aimed to combat climate changes.
The “Earth Hour” event will be held not only in Baku but also others regions of Azerbaijan including Ganja, Lankaran and Lahic. Besides, electricity supply in “Old City” (Icheri Sheher) State historical - architectural reserve Maiden Tower, Palace of the Shirvanshahs, Park Boulevard shopping and entertainment center, Hilton Hotel, Bridge Plaza, Azerbaijan Technical University and other important centers will be suspended for an hour. The event will be available on www.ideacampaign.org and www.earthhour.az.
By turning off the lights of the Maiden Tower, on March 26 2011, Azerbaijan entered the list of 120 countries supporting this global campaign.
Earth Hour is a worldwide event that is organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, encouraging households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.
