Indonesian President conferred with Pakistan’s highest civilian honor

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto concluded his two-day official visit to Islamabad where he met Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and other high ranking officials. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the visit, President Prabowo Subianto held delegation level talks with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and met with President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari. The President of Indonesia was conferred the Nishan-e-Pakistan, country’s highest civilian honor by the President of Pakistan during a special investiture ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr (President House) in Islamabad.
During the visit, the two sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening brotherly ties between the two countries across all areas, including political and diplomatic, economic and trade, security and defence, cultural and education, science and technological, and health cooperation. During their discussions, the leaders emphasized the importance of enhancing high-level engagements, political dialogue, effective use of existing bilateral mechanisms, and strengthening inter-parliamentary relations.
According to the Joint Statement, acknowledging that bilateral relations predate the independence of both countries, the two sides expressed firm resolve to build on the historic foundation and expand cooperation across all areas of mutual interest. Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in a forward-looking manner and explore pathways to further elevate bilateral engagement.
Affirming their shared commitment to expanding trade and economic cooperation, the two sides noted that while bilateral trade has doubled since 2014 and surpassed the US$ 4 billion-mark, considerable opportunities remain unexplored. The leaders exchanged views on regional and global developments. They emphasized the importance of upholding multilateralism, strengthening global governance, and ensuring that the United Nations remains central in addressing global challenges.
Pakistan briefed the Indonesian side on developments related to the Jammu and Kashmir issue. Both sides emphasized the importance of peace, stability, and resolving outstanding issues through peaceful dialogue in line with relevant international principles and established bilateral processes between the parties. The leaders expressed deep concern over the ongoing humanitarian situation in Palestine. They reaffirmed their longstanding support for a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace through the implementation of the Two-State Solution, in line with relevant UN resolutions and internationally agreed parameters, towards the establishment of an independent State of Palestine. Both sides welcomed the Gaza Peace Plan and appreciated their continued cooperation and diplomatic efforts in support of peace in Gaza.
According to the President’s Secretariat, the Indonesian President held a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart which focused on historic ties between the two countries, shared values and the long-standing foundations. Both Presidents noted the longstanding ties between Pakistan and Indonesia and agreed that their relationship continues to rest on shared values and long-standing goodwill. They expressed the intent to work more closely for peace, stability and prosperity.
Both sides underlined the value of working together on climate resilience, disaster management and sustainable development, given the shared challenges facing the two countries. While underscoring the need for peace, security and prosperity for the region, the President briefed the visiting dignitary on the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). President Prabowo Subianto expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the people of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for brotherly gestures and warm hospitality extended to him.
