Media representatives visit religious sites in Shamakhi
Shamakhi, July 17, AZERTAC
Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations and Media Development Agency jointly organized a media tour to religious sites in Shamakhi as a follow-up to the conference themed “Modern Information Space and Freedom of Religious Belief.”
As part of the tour, they visited the Shamakhi Juma Mosque, one of the rare pearls of Azerbaijani and Eastern architecture, with origins dating back to the year 743. The participants were informed about the mosque, recognized as one of the oldest monuments of Islamic culture, as well as the extensive restoration and conservation efforts carried out in recent years.
Journalists then visited the Imamzadeh Mosque in Shamakhi, which also holds historical and architectural significance. During the visit, guides shared comprehensive information about the mosque’s past, its religious importance, and its role in community life.
The next stop brought the delegation to the Pirsaat Baba shrine-mosque complex, one of the region’s notable pilgrimage sites.
Representatives of the local religious community also met with journalists, providing them with insights into the shrine’s origins and significance to residents, and highlighting recent restoration works as well as ongoing efforts to preserve the country’s religious and cultural heritage.
The primary goal of the media tour was to familiarize media representatives with Azerbaijan’s religious worship sites and to spotlight the country's traditions of religious tolerance and its successful model of state-religion relations.
