Minister: Strategic Environmental Assessment requires alignment with existing strategic documents in planning
Baku, May 22, AZERTAC
“Our national targets under the Paris Agreement are reflected in the ‘Updated 3rd Nationally Determined Contributions’ document. Our country has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by 2035,” said Rashad Ismayilov, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, during his speech at the event titled “Strategic Environmental Assessment as a Tool for Achieving Climate Targets in Urban Planning,” held within the framework of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
The Minister noted that Strategic Environmental Assessment requires alignment with existing strategic documents in the planning process.
“With this approach, we can determine the carbon footprint and potential environmental risks of our future activities in advance, accurately assess alternative development options based on scientifically grounded data, and ensure the efficient use of resources,” Ismayilov said.
