`No flood threat in Azerbaijan`
Baku, May 10 (AZERTAC). There is no flood threat in Azerbaijan, said the country`s deputy prime minister Abid Sharifov.
“Even if we have the rains heavier than last year there is no threat that it can cause floods or torrents.”
The deputy premier commented on speculations over the rise of water level in the Kur River.
“It is the spring now, and, naturally, snow is melting on mountains, and this causes the rise of water levels in rivers.”
Sharifov added: “Last year the water flow in the Kur River was 1700-1900 cubic meters per second, and now it is 650-750 cubic meters per second. The Kur River has a big reserve.”
He said that in accordance with instructions of the Head of State more than 400km of dyke will be built across not only the Kur and Araz rivers but also mountain rivers.
