PACE RAPPORTEUR MEETS WITH FOREIGN MINISTER OF AZERBAIJAN

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Vilayat Guliyev received on February 26 PACE rapporteur on Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict Terry Davis. According to the Ministry’s press-service, Minister Vilayat Guliyev pointed out that many changes had occurs since Terry Davis’ previous visit to the region. No progress, however, has been achieved in relation to settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The main reason of such a situation, according to the Minister, is the artificial obstacles Armenia put for peaceful resolution of the conflict. The Head of Azerbaijan Foreign Policy Department stressed “it is extremely important that the report to contain objective reasons of the problem arising, as well as the work done for its urgent resolution.”

Noting that Azerbaijan stands for fair and peaceful settlement of the conflict, the Minister particularly emphasized that the international community shuts its eyes to the crimes committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis even within the period of ceasefire regime.

Mr. Terry Davis expressed satisfaction with his visit to the region and told the Minister he would try to be objective while using the facts he had gathered during his numerous meetings. Stressing the need for continuation of the close cooperation until the report is written, Terry Davis said he would apply to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if necessary.

During the meeting, the parties have also discussed a number of other issues of mutual interest.
