Bucharest, November 3, AZERTAC
An official reception marking November 8, Azerbaijan’s Victory Day, was held in Bucharest.
Organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Romania, the event brought together President of the Senate of Romania Mircea Abrudean, government officials, parliamentarians, members of the diplomatic corps, public figures, representatives of academic and cultural circles, media representatives, members of the Turkish and Tatar communities, as well as Azerbaijanis living and studying in Romania.
The event opened with the national anthems of Azerbaijan and Romania, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.
Addressing the event, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Romania, Gudsi Osmanov, highlighted the historical significance of the 44-day Patriotic War, recalling the nearly 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani territories, the displacement of more than one million people, and the destruction of cities and villages.
He noted that the Azerbaijani Army, under the leadership of President and Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, secured a historic victory in the war launched on September 27, 2020.
The ambassador also highlighted large-scale reconstruction projects in Garabagh and Eastern Zangezur, including infrastructure development, the rebuilding of settlements, and the ongoing return of former internally displaced persons to their homeland.
The Romanian Senate President, the event’s guest of honor, emphasized the special significance of November 8 for Azerbaijan, describing it as the beginning of a new chapter in the development of the South Caucasus. He reaffirmed Romania’s commitment to its friendship and strategic partnership with Azerbaijan, stressing the importance of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity and resolving disputes through diplomatic means.
Expressing hope for a new era of development in the South Caucasus, Mircea Abrudean said the region could become increasingly known for its economic, energy, and transport projects.
The event also featured a video dedicated to Azerbaijan’s Victory Day and a photo exhibition highlighting the victory in the Patriotic War, reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories, and the mine threat.
Guests were also treated to Azerbaijani national cuisine.
