SCO TASHKENT SUMMIT ENDS
The summit of council of the Heads of States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has ended in Tashkent. The summit was attended by delegations of Uzbekistan, Russia, People’s Republic of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrghizstan. President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai and special envoy of President of Mongolia Luvsangiyyi Erdenechulun were also present at the summit in the capacity of guest.
Heads of States discussed the issues of fighting terrorism, extremism, separatism, illegal drugs and weapons turnover, security problems, formation of the single market, etc.
Summit participants adopted a Tashkent Declaration and signed 10 documents coupled with the organization’s activity and principles of work, combat against terrorism, extremism, separatism etc.
The enquiry of Mongolia was considered at the summit. It got the observer’s status.
The chairmanship moved from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan.
The next meeting will take place in 2005 in Astana.
Within the frameworks of the summit, heads of states participated in the opening of the SCO Headquarters of the Executive Committee of the Regional anti-terror body.
