South Korea launches first electric bus fleet
Baku, January 5 (AZERTAC). The South Korea capital Seoul has made an announcement that it is going to introduce its first fleet of full sized electric buses that will support in the public transportation. The bus was manufactured with an agreement Hankuk Fiber and Hyundai Heavy Industries. The electric bus will be used in the Namsan Mountain circuit in Seoul, a central route for North of Seoul`s Han River and entire city.
The electric bus is around 36 feet long and it can run for around 51.6 miles on a single charge with a charging time required is only 30 minutes with a high speed battery charger and a maximum speed of 62 miles per hour. The same kind of vehicles has been introduced in few places like Los Angeles and Mumbai to road test the buses in usually small numbers. Seoul has made an announcement that electric vehicle will reach around half of its public for transportation by the year 2020.
The California state is looking for a zero tailpipe emissions buses which are expected to increase the public agency bus orders by 15% in 2012. The electric buses transition in Seoul shows the effort it has put in to become a global market leader of electric vehicle. Recently, even though having populated with 10.4 million people Seoul had announced that it is planning to become a Green Car, Smart City as it has been progressed for the development of planting trees, waterways, etc.
The Seoul announcement has come on the same day when railway linking from Incheon International airport to central Seoul was opened officially, ten years later after the airport was completed. The airport is located around 36 miles and takes 2 hours to reach by bus from the city among the busy traffic. The government has put an additional effort on the airport railway signals to make it a human friendly.
