Baku, February 27, AZERTAC
“Tourism has become one of the priority areas of Azerbaijan’s economic development in recent years, and comprehensive measures are put in place to support its growth,” said Chairman of the State Tourism Agency Fuad Naghiyev during a public hearing in the Milli Majlis on the topic “The Current State of Tourism in Azerbaijan and Development Perspectives.”
He said that a number of steps have been taken to facilitate travel to Azerbaijan, including the abolition of visa requirements for several countries, the expansion of flight geography, and large-scale promotional efforts to enhance the country’s international visibility.
He noted that despite regional geopolitical developments affecting inbound tourism statistics, an analysis of official data indicates that the sector continues to demonstrate positive growth dynamics.
According to him, in the post-pandemic period of 2021–2025, gross domestic product generated in the tourist accommodation and public catering sector increased annually by an average of 24.5 percent, reaching 3.6 billion manats. This represents a 23.2 percent increase compared to pre-COVID-19 levels.
Preliminary results show that total value added created in the tourism sector amounted to 6.9 billion manats in 2025. As a result, the share of the tourism sector in the country’s economy rose to 5.3 percent last year for the first time in history.
The rapid growth momentum has also supported the creation of new jobs in the sector.
