Ugandan climate advocate: We have high expectations for Azerbaijan-hosted COP29
Baku, November 11, AZERTAC
“Our expectations from the Azerbaijan-hosted COP29 are quite high,” Sandra Namirembe, Gender and Climate advocate at the Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies of Uganda, told AZERTAC.
“The Global South has really suffered with climate impact, which have been caused mainly by the countries in the Global North. We are looking forward to countries in the Global North to make sure that they push for climate financing in the countries in the Global South,” she said.
“So we look forward to see that a lot of decisions are going to be made to make sure that there is a lot of climate financing for countries in the Global South, like Uganda, Kenya. A lot of things are happening there, and we do not have any finances to make sure that we adapt to the new climate change impact. So we have to make sure that there are good decisions that are going to be made during this COP that are going to help us countries in the Global South to adjust to climate change, and that is mainly climate finance,” the Ugandan climate advocate added.
