UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND DELEGATION VISITS SOCAR`s ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT
Baku, May 26 (AZERTAC). Students and teaching staff of the US University of Maryland have visited today the Environmental Department of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
SOCAR vice president for environment Soltan Aliyev highlighted the history of oil production in Azerbaijan and the country`s environmental projects.
Aliyev said protecting environment had been among key government priorities in Azerbaijan.
“President Ilham Aliyev`s declaring 2010 as a Year of Environment in Azerbaijan is a vivid evidence of this.”
He also briefed the US delegation on the construction by SOCAR of an environmental park.
Professor of the Maryland University Richard Weismiller praised SOCAR`s environmental projects.
Following the meeting, the US delegation visited the Environmental Department`s laboratory for complex researches and the environmental park.
