Qurultay elections: Polls close in Kazakhstan
Baku, August 23, AZERTAC
Voting in the elections to the Qurultay has concluded in Kazakhstan. Polling stations across the country closed at 20:00 local time, after which election commissions began counting votes, Qazinform News Agency reports.
As it was reported, Kazakhstan's first-ever elections for deputies of the country's new unicameral Qurultay were held on August 23. Polling stations opened across the country, with voting continuing until 8:00 p.m.
Kazakhstanis were voting for one of seven political parties participating in the elections. Following the vote, seats in the Qurultay will be distributed among the parties that surpass the legally established threshold.
145 deputies are to be elected for a five-year term. More than 12.6 million citizens were registered to vote.
