Azerbaijan, Central Asia determined to ensure regional security

The Joint Declaration signed today at the conclusion of the 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Central Asia in Turkmenbashi commended Azerbaijan’s full-fledged participation in the platform and preparations for the 7th CICA Summit, to be held in Baku on October 15, 2026.
In the document, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation within the UN and other international organizations, ensuring regional security based on respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and expanding efforts to combat terrorism, organized crime, cybercrime, illegal migration, and cross-border emergencies.
The heads of state expressed their support for developing trade and economic ties, investment, business forums, small and medium-sized enterprises, and e-commerce. The development of transit and transport infrastructure, including the East–West and North–South corridors, was identified as a priority in the transport sector. In the energy sector, the parties emphasized the importance of new projects, particularly the project to export green energy from Central Asia to Europe via Azerbaijan, involving Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
The Declaration welcomed the role of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Acceleration Centre, established in Azerbaijan, in advancing digital innovation and fostering the development of startups. It further emphasized the importance of close cooperation in interparliamentary relations, environmental protection and climate change, advanced technologies and AI, industry and pharmaceuticals, telemedicine, as well as cultural and humanitarian ties, sports, tourism, and youth policy.
