Azerbaijan, EEAS discuss regional security

On May 20, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with a delegation led by Olof Skoog, Political Director and Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs at the European External Action Service (EEAS).
During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of Azerbaijan–European Union relations, regional security issues, the post-conflict situation, the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as other regional and international matters of mutual interest.
The sides emphasized the importance of developing political dialogue and cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union in various fields. In this context, the existing potential for further expanding partnership in energy security, transport connectivity, green energy, and other areas was highlighted.
Azerbaijan’s role and contribution to the European Union’s energy security were highly praised. Projects in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and electricity exports were reviewed.
The importance of steps taken to expand infrastructure and create new transport routes was noted in order to increase and diversify the region’s transport and communication potential.
The sides exchanged views on ongoing negotiations regarding a new bilateral agreement and the Partnership Priorities document between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
They also discussed efforts aimed at ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region and considered issues related to advancing the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Information was provided to the EEAS delegation on restoration and reconstruction efforts, as well as the mine threat. In turn, Olof Skoog shared his impressions from his visit to the liberated territories.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
