Azerbaijan, Iran discuss boosting law enforcement agency cooperation

On April 24, Kamran Aliyev, Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General, met with Mojtaba Demirchilou, Ambassador of Iran to the country.
Kamran Aliyev first conveyed condolences regarding the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, as well as the high number of civilian casualties following the recent events. He expressed confidence that that peace will soon be established in the region.
The Azerbaijani Prosecutor General noted that the peoples of Azerbaijan and Iran are bound by friendship and brotherhood and ancient historical, cultural, and religious ties existing between the two countries.
He also highlighted that the existing sincere and friendly relations between the heads of state of both countries contribute to the deepening of cooperation in all areas, including the legal sphere.
Ambassador Mojtaba Demirchilou stressed the significance of relations between the two countries.
Mojtaba Demirchilou conveyed deep gratitude for President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to the Iranian Embassy and his personal condolences, as well as the comprehensive support of Azerbaijan to the Iranian people amid recent developments.
Emphasizing that Azerbaijan was the first country to provide humanitarian aid to Iran, the ambassador added: “The initiative has special meaning for Iran. Azerbaijan’s facilitation the passage of humanitarian aid sent by other countries through its territory is also a friendly move and Iran highly appreciates these efforts.”
Mojtaba Demirchilou highlighted the importance of further strengthening the existing cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan and Iran.
The meeting also featured discussions on the fight against various forms of crime, especially drug trafficking, legal assistance in criminal cases, extradition, transfer of prisoners, as well as increasing the efficiency of activities in these areas.
