Baku, June 4, AZERTAC
A delegation from Azerbaijan, led by Sahib Mammadov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation, is participating in the 113th session of the International Labor Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
The conference has gathered government, employer, and worker representatives from the ILO’s 187 member states to discuss key topics, including potential new international standards for protecting workers from biological hazards in the workplace, ensuring decent work in the platform economy, and innovative approaches to transitioning from the informal to the formal economy.
In his address to the session, Sahib Mammadov emphasized that safeguarding the labor rights of Azerbaijani citizens remains a top priority of the country’s state policy. He shared updates on efforts to protect the labor, social, and economic rights of union members, as well as services and innovations related to healthcare, treatment, and recreation.
Describing the ILO as a reliable social partner of Azerbaijan, Mammadov noted that the country has been a member of the organization since the early years of its independence and has ratified 59 conventions related to labor rights.
He also highlighted ongoing reforms and initiatives within Azerbaijan’s trade union system, including the activities of the “Kurort” Tourism Information Center and the Labor Protection and Legal Assistance Center. Mammadov added that work is currently underway on a draft law to amend existing legislation related to trade unions.
