Azerbaijani community of Karabakh makes appeal on occupation of Khankandi
Baku, December 30 (AZERTAC). The public union of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh has adopted an appeal over the 21st anniversary of the occupation of Khankandi.
The appeal says that the occupation of Khankandi ended on 28 December 1991 with the Kerkijahan settlement. On 18 September 1988, Armenians destroyed and robbed the houses of Azerbaijanis who lived in this city. Over 60 houses of Azerbaijanis were burnt down and some 15,000 people were obliged to leave the city as a result of this barbaric action.
Over a million of Azerbaijanis were forced to flee their native lands as a result of occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani lands by Armenians.
“We, the representatives of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh, who were forced to flee their homes, condemn the policy of ethnic cleansing carried by Armenians.
The acts of genocide towards Azerbaijanis in Khojaly, Garadaghly and Mesheli villages were committed by the incumbent leaders of Armenia and the separatist regime of Nagorno Karabakh that they back. We also condemn any political, moral and material aid to Armenia and the criminal regime of Nagorno Karabakh and consider that this is contrary to the international law”, the document says.
The authors of the appeal note Armenia’s failure to fulfill four resolutions of the UN Security Council demanding the liberation of the occupied lands of Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan believes that the soonest resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict rests on the return of refugees and displaced persons to their homelands.
