Azerbaijan, CITIC Group discuss AI computing platform project in Baku

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Samaddin Asadov met with a delegation from CITIC Group, one of China’s largest state-owned companies, led by Vice President Benjamin Bao.
The meeting discussed cooperation opportunities for an artificial intelligence computing platform planned for Baku. The platform is expected to be developed in phases, with an initial capacity of up to 1 GW. The potential involvement of CITIC Group as a partner, including in financing and construction and installation works, was among the issues discussed.
The meeting also focused on potential cooperation between AZCON Holding and CITIC Group across projects in transport, communications, and the National Artificial Intelligence Center. It forms part of ongoing efforts to advance Baku’s digital economy and strengthen international strategic partnerships.
CITIC Group operates across five key business sectors: banking, non-bank financial services, industrial manufacturing, advanced materials, and new urbanization. The company’s total assets amount to approximately USD 1.5 trillion.
