Numan Kurtulmus: Türkiye-Azerbaijan unity was forged by historical processes
Ankara, October 16, AZERTAC
“A crisis in relations with Azerbaijan is unacceptable,” Numan Kurtulmus, Speaker of Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly (TBMM), said in his interview to Milliyet newspaper.
The speaker emphasized that unity between Türkiye and Azerbaijan is deeply rooted in historical processes. Recalling the famous words of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, “One nation, two states,” he said: “Our friendship and brotherhood were not forged in a single day, so they cannot be diminished by certain circumstances.”
The Turkish parliament speaker recalled Ankara’s statements supporting Azerbaijan during the Patriotic War. “During the 44-day war, Türkiye demonstrated unconditional support for Azerbaijan in the liberation of the occupied territories,” Numan Kurtulmus emphasized.
The parliamentary speaker also informed about telephone conversation with the Head of the Türkiye–Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group Şamil Ayrım. “We have discussed inviting parliamentarians who are members of the Azerbaijan friendship group to Türkiye. By doing so, we will demonstrate a positive atmosphere in bilateral relations and ensure that authorized representatives can review the issues on the agenda,” the speaker added.
