Students and faculty members studying Azerbaijani at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) met with scholars from Azerbaijan.
The meeting featured in-depth discussions on the development of the Azerbaijani language programme at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). Azerbaijani scholars answered students’ questions about teaching Azerbaijani abroad, phonetic and lexical differences between Azerbaijani and Chinese dialects, and academic publishing. They also highlighted the role of the Azerbaijani.edu.az platform in teaching Azerbaijani as a foreign language.
Azerbaijani scholars praised Chinese students’ language skills and offered recommendations on textbooks, curriculum development and student exchanges.
Established in 2016, the Azerbaijani language department at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) admitted its first nine students in 2018, who became China’s first Azerbaijani studies specialists. Admissions resumed in 2023, and eight students are currently enrolled in the undergraduate programme. BFSU maintains close cooperation with Azerbaijani academic, cultural and media institutions, including the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Baku State University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Khazar University, the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) and other institutions.
