Azerbaijani deputy FM meets Japanese Foreign Ministry`s special representative
Baku, January 31 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s deputy minister of foreign affairs Khalaf Khalafov has met special representative of Japanese Foreign Ministry`s special representative for Caucasus, Central Asia and GUAM, Takeshi Hikihara.
The Japanese official said there were common values between Azerbaijan and Japan, particularly values of democracy and rule of law.
Hikihara noted Azerbaijan was an important and strategic country in the region. “Azerbaijan is also a reliable partner of Japan in the region.”
Hikihara recalled that Azerbaijan`s first artificial satellite will be put into orbit, adding Japan was ready to share its experience in this sphere.
Khalafov, in turn, praised the level of Azerbaijan-Japan relationship in all spheres. The deputy minister stressed the role of Japanese companies in Azerbaijan`s economy, saying they would contribute to expansion of cooperation between the two countries. Khalafov also underlined the necessity of using Japan`s experience in ICT sector. The deputy minister stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation in humanitarian and cultural spheres. He highly appreciated the fact that the Japanese government had created conditions for Azerbaijani students and specialists to study and gain experience in this country. Khalafov also underscored the necessity of reciprocal visits and development of relations between legislative bodies of the two countries.
During the meeting, Khalafov briefed Hikihara on the ongoing development process in Azerbaijan, the country`s role in the region, Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which he added impedes stability and security in the region. The deputy minister noted OSCE Minsk Group`s efforts to settle the conflict peacefully had yielded no results. He also said the international community must exert more pressure on Armenia to honor resolutions adopted by the UN and other international organizations on withdrawal of the armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
