Azerbaijani Deputy PM meets with Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development

Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Co-chair of the Azerbaijan-Iran State Commission on economic, trade, and humanitarian cooperation Shahin Mustafayev met here on Friday with Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Co-chair of the Azerbaijan-Iran State Commission on economic, trade, and humanitarian cooperation Mehrdad Bazrpash.
They highlighted the foundation-laying ceremony of a highway bridge held near the Aghband settlement of Azerbaijan’s Zangilan district, as well as the discussions on the construction plans of the new railway line and bridges.
The meeting also addressed the topical issues of bilateral agenda regarding the transport and communication between Azerbaijan and Iran, as well as use of energy and water resources.
Highlighting the significance of increasing transit attractiveness, they stressed the need to take urgent measures regarding the construction of approach roads to the bridge built over the Astarachay River, an integral component of the “North-South” transport corridor, as well as establishment of border-customs infrastructure.
Moreover, the relevant tasks were given to the state institutions for the speedy completion of the Astara cargo terminal.
The sides emphasized the importance of speeding up the construction projects of the “Khudafarin”, “Giz Galasi” and “Ordubad-Marazad” hydro junctions and hydroelectric power plants.
The meeting wrapped up with the signing of the following documents:
The Protocol of Intent on the construction of a new railway line and railway bridges between the Eastern Zangezur Economic Region and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Republic of Azerbaijan passing through the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran
The minutes of the meeting of the co-chairmen of the Joint Working Group on the construction of a road border bridge and a pedestrian crossing over the Araz River at the checkpoints of the Aghband (Republic of Azerbaijan) - Kalala (Islamic Republic of Iran) located on the Azerbaijan-İran state border.
