Azerbaijani Embassy in Japan commemorates victims of Black January
Tokio, January 19 (AZERTAC) Azerbaijani Embassy to Japan has sent information to the mass media and diplomatic corps in the country on the anniversary of the Black January tragedy.
The information says, January 20 will be 23rd anniversary of the Black January tragedy.
A massacre is one of the bloodiest ones, ordered against its own nation by Soviet Union to preserve the Empire.
On January 19-20, 1990, in Baku, 26,000 Soviet troops entered Baku, smashing through the barricades in order to crush the Popular Front. Nearly 147 people were slaughtered, including the children, women and the elder ones; up to 800 citizens were injured and hundreds were arrested under the tortures.
20 January 1990 also took its place in Azerbaijan history as the people`s heroic struggle for freedom and territorial integrity.
The aim of this bloody massacre was also to quiet the freedom will of the Azerbaijani people and to prevent destruction of the communistic regime, the information said. However, the communist party wasn’t able to stop the struggle for freedom and only 20 months later Azerbaijan regained its independence.
The Black January has turned to the true heroism ideal of the people who don`t afraid of the terrorism made by Soviet Union heads.
Although it passes 23 year after the Black January, every Azerbaijani unrelated where he or she is living is commemorating with great respect and honor these Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country`s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
