Azerbaijani, French Foreign ministries hold political consultations
Baku, December 9 (AZERTAC). The Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and France have conducted political consultations in Baku.
Azerbaijan`s delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, while France`s delegation was led by Director of the Continental Europe Department at the Foreign Ministry Eric Fournier.
They praised the relations between the two countries.
Fournier mentioned the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva to France, noting such high-level visits contribute to the bilateral relations.
Khalafov stressed the importance of the French delegation`s visit to Azerbaijan.
The Azeri deputy FM highlighted reforms carried out in his country.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, Khalafov said it was a threat and danger both to the country and the entire region.
The deputy minister said Azerbaijan supported peaceful settlement of the conflict, expressing regret over the fact “more than 20 years of negotiations have not yielded any results”.
Khalafov said Armenia demonstrated a non-constructive position, stressing it only undermines the negotiation process.
He noted Armenia had been ignoring the international law, resolutions and decisions adopted by international organizations on the settlement of the conflict. Khalafov emphasized the necessity of exerting more pressure on Armenia to force it to take a constructive position.
The deputy FM called on the OSCE Minsk Group to increase efforts towards ensuring the liberation of Azerbaijan`s occupied lands.
