Bahar Muradova meets with Deputy Executive Director of UN Women

Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, who is visiting New York as part of the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, has met with Kirsi Madi, Deputy Executive Director of UN Women.
The committee chairperson expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with the UN agency, noting that there is a great need for women's collaboration and joint work on all ongoing global processes. She mentioned that during Azerbaijan's presidency of COP29, gender issues were widely discussed, and for the first time, a "gender day" was declared within this framework. Various meetings and a conference were held on that day, and Bahar Muradova thanked UN Women for their cooperation in this regard. She emphasized the importance of continuing these steps during COP30 and proposed working together with the agency in this direction.
The committee chairperson also noted that implementing projects in the area of women's economic empowerment would be beneficial. Bahar Muradova stated that after Azerbaijan liberated its territories from occupation, "smart villages" and "smart cities" were being established in those areas. The committee chairperson added that joint cooperation is possible in helping women adapt to the new lifestyle in these regions.
Kirsi Madi, Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, congratulated Azerbaijan on successfully hosting COP29. She expressed a positive attitude towards continuing cooperation within the framework of COP30.
Kirsi Madi emphasized that this year's 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women also coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. The agency official added that 6+1 priorities have been identified to improve women's living standards, highlighting that poverty eradication, women's employment, zero violence, security, and digital development are among these priorities. According to her, implementing these priorities will lead to a 20 percent increase in GDP.
Kirsi Madi thanked the committee for its work towards women's development and expressed interest in continuing cooperation.
