BAKU HOSTS MEETING OF CIS INTERRELIGIOUS COUNCIL
Baku, April 25 (AZERTAC). Seventeen religious leaders from the CIS member countries have gathered for a meeting here on Sunday for the first time since the death of one of co-chairs of the CIS Interreligious Council, Patriarch Alexy II.
Co-chair of the CIS Interreligious Council, Chairman of the Clerical Office of Caucasus Muslims, sheikh ul-islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh delivered a keynoter speech, which highlighted results of the CIS Interreligious Council`s activity. Pashazadeh said the present meeting is devoted to tomorrow`s
Baku Summit of world religious leaders. He expressed satisfaction with the Council`s contribution to prevention of conflicts on the grounds of religious radicalism, xenophobia,
Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill was elected co-chair of the Council in accordance with its statute.
Speaking the meeting, the Patriarch thanked President Ilham Aliyev and head of the Clerical Office of Caucasus Muslims Allahshukur Pashazade for organizing the Baku summit.
The meeting participants elected chairman of the Executive Committee of the CIS Interreligious Council and coordinating secretary. The meeting approved a program of the Baku summit of world religious leaders.
