Death toll from deadly earthquake in Afghanistan reaches to 1,469

The death toll from the deadly and worst earthquake in Afghanistan has risen to 1,469, with more than 3,900 injured.
According to the Afghan authorities, rescue operations were still underway in the earthquake-hit areas. Türkiye and Pakistan besides several other countries have sent humanitarian aid to support the earthquake-affected people in Afghanistan.
The Pakistani government has dispatched 105 tons of humanitarian aid for quake-hit Afghanistan. A convoy of trucks from Pakistan crossed into Afghanistan via the Torkham border, aiming to provide immediate support to communities devastated by the recent earthquake. Pakistan dispatched essential relief supplies for earthquake-affected people in Afghanistan on the directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar in a post on social media platform X said that “following my telephone call with Foreign Minister Muttaqi, the Government of Pakistan dispatched 105 tons of humanitarian relief assistance to Afghanistan, the consignment includes essential food items, medicines, tents, blankets, and bubble mats, aimed at supporting those affected by the recent earthquakes in the country.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that we extend our deepest condolences and prayers for the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. Pakistan stands in solidarity with the brotherly people of Afghanistan in this difficult time, he maintained.
Türkiye’s disaster agency delivered 25 tons of humanitarian aid supplies to people affected by the earthquake in Afghanistan. The aid was delivered by a Turkish Air Force A400M aircraft. China, Iran and other countries have also provided assistance to earthquake victims in Afghanistan. The European Union has announced €1 million in emergency aid and 130 tons of relief supplies.
Earlier this week, a powerful earthquake jolted parts of Afghanistan which also left almost 4 thousand people injured and destroyed 6,782 houses. The highest number of deaths occurred in Kunar province of eastern Afghanistan where over 1,450 people lost their lives.
