Rabat, Chouaib Brhadda, September 21, AZERTAC
The very strong storms that occurred yesterday, Friday, in the province of Tata, located in the southeast of Morocco, caused exceptional floods. An incident involving a passenger bus swept away by torrential rains was recorded at the level of Oued Tata.
The correspondent of AZERTAC reported, according to a report from the local authorities of the city, that the accident caused, provisionally, two deaths, while 13 others were rescued and 14 passengers were reported missing. Additionally, following the floods, a case was recorded concerning a missing woman in Douar Ighourten, Tagzmirt commune, under the Caidat of Ides.
These exceptional storms have caused the level of many rivers to rise to unprecedented proportions, as the capacity of Wadi Tata alone reached more than 2,300 cubic meters per second, while that of Wadi Zguid reached 1,900 cubic meters per second.
Regarding material losses, the regions of this province have experienced multiple damages in a temporary assessment, including the total or partial collapse of some houses, whose inhabitants had been previously evacuated, and the complete or partial collapse of several technical installations in the region, in addition to damage to several road sections and the interruption of traffic on several axes.
The public authorities, all the concerned departments, as well as various stakeholders, have mobilized all logistical and human resources to intervene, deal with this exceptional situation, and provide assistance to citizens, the same source added.
Efforts are continuing to find the missing and restore the functioning of the road and service networks in the province.
