Baku, June 16, AZERTAC
As part of the working visit by the Uzbekistan delegation, led by Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Nuriddin Ismoilov, to Hatay province of the Republic of Türkiye, the O’zbekiston Mahallasi (Uzbek Mahalla) residential complex, built in Arsuz district, was opened, Uza.uz reported.
In February 2023, a devastating earthquake struck southern Türkiye, resulting in thousands of deaths and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless. During these challenging times, Uzbekistan was among the first to offer concrete support to Türkiye.
In a short period, over 100 rescuers and 70 healthcare workers were dispatched to Türkiye. Search and rescue efforts saved 18 lives and recovered more than 200 injured individuals from the rubble. Additionally, over 4,000 people received medical care at a field hospital set up by doctors from Uzbekistan.
Efforts to recover from the earthquake continue in Türkiye. As a tangible result, a residential complex has been established in Arsuz district on the Mediterranean coast. It comprises 24 multi-storey buildings with over 300 apartments, all equipped with essential infrastructure. This complex has come to represent friendship, brotherhood, and solidarity between the Uzbek and Turkish peoples.
The area features streets named after Samarkand and Tashkent, the Bukhara Mosque, Friendship Park, a boulevard named after President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a canteen built in the Uzbek national style, as well as children’s playgrounds and rest areas. The complex symbolizes the shared history, values, and cultural heritage of the two brotherly nations.
