TAP inaugurates renovated Dorilaiou Street in Serres

The Municipality of Serres and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) AG inaugurated the fully renovated (former) Dorilaiou Street, at the city’s central square. Following the ceremony, attendees enjoyed a stroll on the new pedestrian walkway and a ride on the new Dorilaiou Street bike road.
This is the first of the infrastructure development projects "WORKS OF INSPIRATION" that TAP is voluntarily implementing in all three Northern Greek Prefectures, as part of its Social & Environmental Investment (SEI) Programme.
The renovation of the (former) Dorilaiou Street was supported by the municipal authorities and the local community as a significant project that meets their needs for safe, open and accessible public spaces, and as a project that will contribute to improved quality of life for residents.
Thanks to the efforts of all involved parties, the project was concluded in just three months after its launch and was implemented in line with best to Health and Safety international practices. The investment included: paving the street, as well as the walkways leading to an existing pond, with Karystos schist stones and decorative elements, creating a two-way paved bike road, creating a tactile paving for the visually impaired, installing a lighting network and lighting posts, installing outdoor benches and two fountains with potable water, built with natural stone slabs.
TAP’s SEI programme focuses on improving the quality of life and enhancing the livelihoods of residents in the areas along the pipeline route, cultivating skills through education and training, and boosting environmental management. To that end, TAP is in constant dialogue and collaboration with local communities to explore and address their needs.
This point was highlighted by the Mayor of Serres, Petros Aggelidis, who thanked TAP for funding the renovation of Dorilaiou Street and noted that it is the first step of an extensive project to renovate the city’s entire central park - "a significant redevelopment project for the people of Serres and a vision of 100 years for the city that is becoming a reality."
On her part, TAP’s Country Manager for Greece, Katerina Papalexandri, thanked the Municipality of Serres and its services for their excellent collaboration, congratulated everyone who contributed to the successful implementation of the project within such a short period of time, and wished that the residents enjoy the recreational opportunities offered by this beautiful renovated public space.
TAP will transport natural gas from the giant Shah Deniz II field in Azerbaijan to Europe. The 878km long pipeline will connect with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border at Kipoi, cross Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Southern Italy.
TAP’s routing can facilitate gas supply to several South Eastern European countries, including Bulgaria, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia and others. TAP’s landfall in Italy provides multiple opportunities for further transport of Caspian natural gas to some of the largest European markets such as Germany, France, the UK, Switzerland and Austria.
TAP will promote the economic development and job creation along the pipeline route; it will be a major source of foreign direct investment and it is not dependent on grants or subsidies. With first gas sales to Georgia and Turkey targeted for late 2018, first deliveries to Europe will follow in 2020.
TAP’s shareholding is comprised of BP (20%), SOCAR (20%), Snam S.p.A. (20%), Fluxys (19%), Enagás (16%) and Axpo (5%).
