Baku, July 24, AZERTAC
It was stated that the high heat wave continued in Algeria and the temperatures in some cities exceeded 48 degrees, according to TRT Haber.
In the statement, which drew attention to the fact that the alarm level was increased from orange to red, it was emphasized that this situation was related to “heavy weather conditions characterized by very high temperatures” compared to the usual temperatures in July of each year.
According to the classifications of the Algerian Meteorological Agency, the color orange indicates that a “very dangerous” situation has occurred or is expected, while the red color indicates that an exceptionally severe “very dangerous” situation has occurred or is expected.
An orange alert was issued by the said institution after it was announced on Saturday that the temperatures would reach 48 degrees in the shade across the country, including the coastal areas.
The Algerian Civil Defense Presidency also announced yesterday that forest fires broke out in 7 cities in the north of the country due to the weather temperatures, and that air and land extinguishing efforts were continuing.
Algerian authorities had announced that the state of high alert had been activated in anticipation that the heatwave, which had been going on for weeks, could cause forest fires.
For about a month, Algeria has been witnessing record temperatures of 48 degrees in the capital and 50 degrees in other regions.
