U.S. congressmen commemorate Khojaly victims
Washington, February 28 (AZERTAC). U.S. congressmen Tim Ryan of Ohio, Gene Green of Texas and Virginia Foxx of North Carolina have made statements on Khojaly tragedy. In his speech, Tim Ryan called upon all his colleagues to honor the victims of Khojaly tragedy. "The attack on Khojaly resulted in death of 613 citizens of Azerbaijan. It is the most devastating act of violence in the South Caucasus over the recent years. According to some sources, the fate of 150 missing captives from Khojaly is not known so far, even after 21 years", said Rayan.
Congressman Gene Green said during one night 1275 Azerbaijanis were tortured and 613 were killed, including 106 women and 63 children. “Despite the shocking details of the tragedy, victims of the Khojaly massacre have been almost forgotten outside Azerbaijan. It is impossible for our country, which has always supported the protection of rights of all peoples,“ Gene Green said.
The congressman also emphasized contribution of Azerbaijan to the elimination of consequences of the 11.09.2011 terrorist attacks in New York and the participation of Azerbaijani soldiers in the coalition against terrorism. "As Azerbaijan supported our country in these difficult times, we also should not forget the mass murder of 613 Azerbaijani men, women and children," said the congressman.
Virginia Foxx noted that since the restoration of independence, Azerbaijan is a reliable friend and a valuable ally of the United States. "Therefore, while Azerbaijan marks the 21st anniversary of these tragic events, as a sign of loyalty to friendship, it would be right if the U.S. Congress honor the victims of Khojaly tragedy," Virginia Foxx said.
